Unit 3 Draft

For my project I decided to create an editorial ‘magazine’ that I’d imagine being published in an academic/ university setting. What I have currently is a very rough draft basically ‘free-designing’ where my main text, key headlines, and graphic content would go. The idea here is to create a hierarchy of information for my audience to quickly visualize and understand the message I’m trying to deliver (seen in the title of my project). I’m also aiming to follow the same narrative voice both news articles I found last week (see last discussion post below) by hybridizing the two and including mixed-media sources. The purpose of me posting on ISSUU (web platform) is so that this piece is available to the public which is generally catered for students and creative publications. As such, those interested in learning about getting a bigger idea of language, diversity, and the value it can bring to organizational settings (like the benefit of students familiarizing themselves with this as a means to increase employment opportunities in the workplace) would read on under these circumstances.

  1. I really like the genre you chose, especially because of the seamless inclusion of videos and pictures, it looks professional and it is easy to navigate. I also like your focus on language, I’m writing on diversity as well and I haven’t mentioned the effect of different types of languages. Overall, I think this can definitely turn into a solid, clear source of information. And as for adding your perspective to the global discussion, a magazine is a really creative way to do it. I can see them being included in the welcome package at a freshman orientation or first day at a job.

  2. I think the way you edited this is really cool and unique. As the reader, it was easy for me to navigate my way through and there weren’t too many words on each page where I stopped paying attention. The cover photo is super intriguing and different, reminds me of an actual magazine. I also really like the examples of TedTalks you have because if the reader then feels like transitioning to an audio way of learning, they can easily do that. The comic graphic as well as the map provide a different take on what you would think a magazine entails, so these are really nice touches.
