Draft, Aaron

*I apologize first off for the quality of my work lately, I have been really sick the last couple of days* My draft is linked at the bottom of this, and I promise that the final project will be much more worthy and complete.

My final project is going to be dealing with the effects of bias in education-is it really prevalent, how much of an effect does it have on educational outcomes (student performance)? My intended audience is students in high school and university level who may be enrolled in a course just like this. The sources I am using are academic in style but not too heavy on the language, so a lay person could understand them quite easily. The style of my final project will be a straightforward research article (with the possibility of incorporating a graphic or two) but it will be written in the traditional style that we are all accustomed to.

  1. My topic is actually sort of similar to your because I am focusing on inclusive schooling and its benefits! I could definitely see that your project is geared towards high school/university students. I agree that there is definitely bias in education, and as a society we need to work to change that because it could have an affect on the students, and how they learn. Diversity in the classroom is so important because it can help students learn, see differences, and understand how to accept people who are not exactly like them. I’m sorry you have been sick. I hope you feel better soon! Great job!

  2. I love the topic as I believe it is very relevant for many young adults and teenagers today who may face such bias at school or in an educational setting. I think the example provided, focusing on how those who grew up in more rural communities, may have acquired skills that should be praised is a discussion that I believe has been needing to happen for a while. Even crazier is seeing how this diversity blends into my own life, taking for example the skills that some of my city friends have in comparison to myself and other suburban kids. Feel better soon and you did a fabulous job!
